Don't let the colder, shorter days keep you indoors. Winter offers a unique opportunity to experience the countryside at its most peaceful and atmospheric. A brisk walk in the fresh air can do wonders for both body and mind, helping to lift your spirits and shake off the winter blues.
Wrap up warm and join local guide Sarah Moon, North Downs Way Ambassador and National Landscape Manager for the Kent Downs National Landscape, on a scenic winter walk through the beautiful Darent Valley. The walk begins at The Mount Vineyard's Ten Acres Shop, where you can purchase a warming coffee before setting off. From there, the route leads through the dormant vines and up into the woodland above Shoreham Village. Along the way, you'll pause at the Shoreham Cross to enjoy far-reaching winter views across the Darent Valley, stretching towards Sevenoaks and beyond. With the trees bare, the landscape opens up to reveal vistas often hidden during the warmer months. The trail then winds through beautiful woodland, including areas of ancient woodland, where you'll discover the quiet beauty of the winter countryside and the frost-kissed landscape. Look out for seasonal wildlife and enjoy the crisp air and peaceful atmosphere that make this time of year so special. Descending back into the valley, you'll follow the tranquil path alongside the River Darent before returning to The Mount Vineyard.
To round off your winter walk, a delicious pizza and a glass of wine will be waiting for you on your return, providing the perfect opportunity to relax and warm up after your countryside adventure.
