There is a good reason why Kent is known as the Garden of England and during late summer, the fields and hedgerows around the Mount Vineyard are abundant with all manner of edible treats.

Pack a container and join local guide Sarah Moon, North Downs Way Ambassador and National Landscape Manager for the Kent Downs, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, on a circular walk through the Darent Valley foraging for wild fruits and berries.

Your route begins with us here at The Mount Vineyard at our Ten Acres Shop (where you can purchase a coffee before you head off, if desired). You will then walk through Shoreham Village and into the fields beneath the Shoreham Cross. Exactly what is available will depend on the weather over the summer, but you will hopefully be able to find wild herbs, blackberries, sloes and perhaps even the odd hazelnut.

We will continue along the Darent Valley path until reaching the apple orchard at Castle Farm where, as long as the fruit is ripe, for a small charge, you will be able to pick a few delicious Norfolk Royals, a heritage variety of apple, grown only here. From here, we will follow the path back along the river, looping through the vines before arriving back at The Mount Vineyard, where you will find your wine flight awaits you.

Sarah has lived in the area for over 15 years & is passionate about nature & its positive impact on physical and mental wellbeing. Sarah works for the Kent Downs National Landscape, where she focuses on improving access to the countryside and helping more people discover and enjoy the local landscape.

Important Information: There will be some uneven ground so appropriate footwear required. We'd also advise wearing long trousers as the grass will be quite long at that time of year. People should bring a water bottle and sun cream, as it can be hot and there's not a lot of shade on the hillside.

Any other items ordered at The Mount Vineyard will need to be paid for separately, guests are welcome to book a table at the restaurant for lunch following your wine flight, if desired: Book - The Mount Vineyard : The Mount Vineyard
